Galveston Day 3-Last Day

Sunday was our last day in Galveston.  We had to head out bright and early Monday morning.

Our first excursion was a food tour called A Taste of the Strand.   We were the only people on the tour.   We thought that was unusual and were surprised it wasn’t cancelled due to lack of participants.    We met the host and were off.

Our first stop was a Greek place:

The meat was beef and lamb.  There was tzatziki sauce, chicken and rice soup, feta a kalamata olives.   J ate my feta and neither of us were crazy about the soup.   The meat was good but I don’t think we’ve ever had bad “Greek” gyro meat.

Next stop was Pelican Joe’s which is a bbq joint.

J liked the bbq sauce.  To me it was just your normal regular sauce.   I thought the rub used on the rib and wing was a bit salty but J didn’t.  There was also a deep fried Oreo and I thought that was pretty good.

Next up was some hole in the wall sandwich joint that didn’t have their name posted anywhere.

We had a Reuben and chips.  They make everything but the bread here but that is sourced locally.  I don’t like reubens but I did try it.   J said it was good but we both agreed the chips were a little over done.

Stop 4 was Shrimp and Stuff.  Unfortunately they gave us a fish po’boy.   I don’t care for fish so J ate both of ours.

He said the fish was good.  I’ll just have to believe him.

We then walked across the street to a wine and cheese shop.   We were not interested in the wine so we had water with the cheese and crackers.  They gave us Asiago, a locally sourced goat cheese and a dill havarti.  The cheese was good.

Next up was a stop at The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.  The tour host gave us a $10 gift card and we got this:

Rocky Road Fudge and a candy bar.

Then we hit another candy shop where we each got to get a small bag of salt water taffy that they pull onsight:

And then finally we stopped at Yaga’s where we had a shrimp and crawfish flaunta.   I don’t care for crawfish as I find it very fishy tasting.   J is also not a fan and ended up picking the crawfish out.

The tour also visited a few stores and a paranormal shop.   We’re not really into that kind of thing and the host asked if we had any aversions to that kind of stuff and we said no.  We figured we might as well experience it all.    All in all it wasn’t a bad tour but the food we had on the Dallas tour was much better.

It was about four when it ended so we headed back to the camper to take care of Buddy.   Once he was good we went back out to take a Sunset Cruise.

We saw dolphins:

It was a 2 hour boat ride.   We got back to the camper around ten.

Here’s another view of how tight the sites were.  If we ever go back we won’t be staying here:

That wraps this weekend trip up.
