New Mexico

After my class ended, I flew to New Mexico for a few days. While there, J and I went to a place called Old Mesilla. It's close to Las Cruces, which is about an hour and a half away from Alamogordo (which is where Holloman AFB is). We went on a Friday and they have vendors selling their wares in the courtyard. These are a few pictures. (There was not a long of vendors and most of them were selling jewelry). ****************************************************************************** . . .

On one of the side streets in the town, there is a shop called The Potteries

The picture on the left was one of their displays and the picture on the right is what I bought. This looked the most of what I would think New Mexican pottery would look like.

There was one vendor in the middle of town selling pottery. I bought this dish. It had a recipe in it for baked brie so I tried it out at J's house before I came back home and it worked really well. It doesn't look New Mexican to me, but rather Japanese, but the potter said her husband was a retired Navy guy so maybe she took her influences from her travels during his career. (J chit chats with everyone so somehow they got on the topic of the military).

After leaving Old Mesilla, we stopped at White Sands on the way back to the bachelor pad.

And that's what has been going on here. I was hoping for a few days of unpaid leave next week, but I guess that's not going to happen, so it will be back to "regular" business around here.

I'm not sure what is up with blogger, but it keeps distorting this post, so I have given up on getting it to look "right".

Pictures take 3

And finally, on Sunday we headed out to the pistachio groves. The truck was in the parking lot of one of them and there is a picture of the things we picked up in their stores. This is the kind of stuff I was looking for at Christmas. But now that I know I can get things like this in New Mexico, don't be surprised if this is what shows up as presents.

Pictures #2

When I was in New Mexico, we decided to go to a store called the Old Apple Barn. I didn't see that it was only open Memorial Day to New Year's. But, on the drive, we pulled over and took some pictures of the area. J wanted to lean over the side and take pictures of the gorge below. All I needed was for him to fall over, so needless to say, none of those pictures were taken.

The Bachelor Pad

These are pictures of the bachelor pad; it's 3 bedrooms, 2 baths. One bedroom is pink, one is purple and then there is the master. In the master, you can see J's night stands-black foot lockers. I made the comment about it not being symmetrical (that's what he said to me when I only bought one nightstand for our house). His comment was that he didn't own that place so it didn't matter. He also has only has a bedframe and mattress. He's living the minimalist life. He inherited the black Japanese cabinets and we bought a small cheap table for him at WalMart. The other kitchen furniture was broken in the move, so I just left it at the bachelor pad and he uses it for storage.

The trees in the backyard are walnut and I brought some home with me to LA. I have more pictures of New Mexico, but will put them in another post.
