Rusk Texas

Last weekend we took a quick overnight trip to Rusk Texas.  It’s a very small town about the size of Yale or Capac (MI) but they have a KOA and the Texas State Railroad.   We (I) booked two presidential seats on the train so off we went.

The campground:

It was pretty empty.   Here we are:

We arrived Friday night and hit the town.    Restaurants consisted mainly of 2-3 fast food places so we got Taco Bell and went back to the camper.

We headed out early Saturday morning.

They gave us a small plate of hits d’oeuvres:

You were able to walk around and stand on the porch outside during the ride.    A few pictures of the scenery:

The train runs between two stations.  After an hour and a half you reach the second station to eat lunch.   You preorder the meal when you buy your tickets.   J had a club sandwich and I had chicken tenders.  They were just average and I didn’t take pictures but here are a few of the area at the second station in Palestine Texas.

After an hour we headed back.

After the train ride we went into the town and visited the local history museum.  We had about 45 minutes to walk through it but we were able to see everything.

We headed back to the camper and just hung out until Sunday morning when we packed up and went home.

This was our first trip with now dog and pretty quiet without him around.

We will be off to Oklahoma City next weekend for  the Labor Day holiday.
