Labor Day in Austin part 2

On day 2 (Saturday) in Austin, I had 2 tours lined up.

The first was a drive around Austin and the Hill Country.

It was an hour and a half drive but not a tour we’d recommend so I won’t name the company.  After the drive we took a Riverboat Tour on Lady Bird Lake.

If you look closely, you can see a pair of turtles.

In between the tours, we stopped at TacoDeli for Tacos!

It was much better than Stubb’s.

For dinner, we drove to Lockhart Texas for mor BBQ.  We went to 3 different places.  We ate in one and got takeout at the other two.  These places have been featured on various tv shows so we wanted to see what the hype was about.

First up was Kreuz’s Market.

We had brisket and jalapeño sausage.  They had sold out of pretty much everything else by the time we arrived.

Then we stopped st Black’s BBQ for some to-go.

We got the same here, brisket and sausage.  Once again, everything else was basically sold out.  We also had a bit of excitement when I warmed this up in the microwave for dinner the next day.  They wrapped it it tinfoil and the butcher paper.  I just threw the whole thing in and yep, the microwave caught on fire.  We pulled it out and it fell on the floor.  Luckily we had carpet tiles down and while they did burn a bit, the actual floor is fine.

Then we hit Smitty’s BBQ.  We only tried brisket here and they were also sold out of most everything.  We also got some pies.

The verdict?    Black’s was by far the best.  Kreuz’s sausage was over cooked and mushy and Smitty’s brisket was a little on the dry side.

Day 3 coming up next!
